Recovering From Laser Liposuction: What to Expect

Laser liposuction can give you a good start in reaching your health goals. The American Society of Liposuction Surgery recommends this process for targeting difficult areas to trim down the traditional way. The treatment will need proper healing. Here are the details that you must consider to prepare for laser liposuction recovery.

The First Few Hours

Right after the procedure, the surgical team will apply compression garments to put pressure on the site. The tumescent and tissue fluid may leak with the tissue fluid from the treatment site. Protect your car seats, couches, and bedsheets by placing a plastic lining over them. Allowing the fluids to leak out can help shorten your recovery period. Expect a feeling of drowsiness. Someone must drive you home after the procedure.

The Day After

By this time, most of the fluid from the site will have leaked out. Your movement will improve. Taking pain relievers can provide you with more comfort. That is why having some time off work can help you get the rest you need for healing. You will feel sore in the treated areas. Keeping the compression garments on for up to three days after the surgery can ensure that the fluids drain out. You can wash or sponge bath around the garments.

Day Three

On the third day, you need to remove the dressings and garments. You can shower and replace the compression garments. Patients often go back to work by the third day. You should still wear your compression garments underneath your clothing. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers as your physical activities increase so that your pain can be under control.

Days Five to Seven

By this time, you will be able to perform mild, nonimpact exercises like walking. You will start seeing the results of the laser liposuction, but there will still be tissue swelling. Some bruising will also occur. You will feel almost back to your normal self.

Day 14

Wearing compression garments at this point is optional. Many patients stop wearing them. Most people go back to their routine, such as workouts and sexual activities, by this time. You will start seeing and appreciating your laser liposuction results. There will still be some swelling. The small incisions will have healed already.

A Month and a Year Later

It will take some time before you see the fruits of laser liposuction. A month later, the small incisions will have healed. The scars will still be red. A year later, the incisions will start to fade. They will also be more difficult to see.

Caring for the Body

You should make changes in your lifestyle to maximize the results of your laser liposuction. It may take some time to see the full effects of this procedure. But your efforts will be worth it. Here are a few tips that can help quicken your healing and liposuction results:

  • Hydrate well. This can help your body heal faster. It can enhance your lipo results.

  • Increase your physical activity. Light to moderate workouts during the first two days of recovery can help speed up your recovery.

  • Reduce your fat intake. You can eat any type of food after your laser liposuction. But a high-fat diet is not ideal.
